It is often seen that women and girls are harassed in the streets and they are unable to respond to it but people can also be punished for harassing women, there are laws on harassing women.
If any person molests any woman or attacks that woman or uses criminal force, then section 354 can be used against him and a case can be registered and if found guilty, there is a provision of punishment from one year to five years. Earlier this punishment was for 2 years and later due to increase in cases of molestation, the law was amended in the year 2013 and the punishment has been made more stringent and along with this amendment some more sub sections have also been added, law on molestation
Under section 354 of IPC, sub-sections have been made which describes the cases of acts/harassment against women and provision for punishment has been made.

Sub-section of section 354
Under section 354 A, if a person touches a woman or touches any part of her body or makes any kind of physical contact or directly proposes to have sexual intercourse, then any such act is done, then a case is registered against him under section 354 A.
Under Section 354 B, if a person forces a woman to get naked or provokes her in this way or removes her clothes or uses criminal force, then a case is registered against the person under Section 354 B for such act and the culprit can be sentenced to 3 to 7 years and can also be punished with fine and this case will be non-bailable.
Under Section 354 C, taking a photo of a woman’s obscene thing or her private part or distributing it among other people is a case registered under Section 354 C. In this, if a person is found guilty for the first time, he can be sentenced to one to three years and if a person is found guilty for the second time, he can be sentenced to three to seven years and this crime is non-bailable.
Under Section 354 D, following a woman, harassing her, trying to make contact with her, in such a case a case is registered under Section 354 D. In this case, if the person is found guilty for the first time, he can be sentenced to three years of imprisonment and can also be fined. And if the person is found guilty for the second time, he can be sentenced to five years of imprisonment. This crime is non-bailable.
Complaint
If a woman/girl is molested, she can go to her nearest police station and file a complaint against the person. On filing the complaint, immediate action is taken by the police officer or in case of molestation, the woman can call the police control room number 100 and call the police on the spot or call the women helpline number 1091. In this way, a woman can take the help of law in case of molestation and can get justice for herself.
