The code of conduct is mainly imposed during elections so that differences in the elections can be avoided and the elections can be concluded in a peaceful manner.

The code of conduct is also called the election code of conduct and is implemented at the time of elections. When the date of election is announced by the Election Commission through the Election Committee, then some guidelines for elections are publicly given to all political parties, which are implemented and all political parties have to follow them compulsorily and the party which does not follow this rule can be barred from election. As soon as this rule is implemented, all the parties are monitored by the Election Commission on this functioning.

Purpose of the Code of Conduct

The main objective of the code of conduct is to conduct elections in a peaceful and fair manner for all parties, to avoid discrimination among political parties and to prevent any political party from taking advantage of its official position in the centre and state in an unfair manner.

 

Code of Conduct Rules
  1. As soon as the code comes into force, political parties cannot use government bungalows, government aircraft, or government vehicles for election campaigning.
  2. A political party cannot organize any special event at government expense to benefit itself
  3. An observer is appointed by the Election Commission to keep an eye on all political parties for their activities and work.
  4. No government announcement or foundation stone can be laid by any political party to attract voters in the election.
  5. Votes cannot be sought in the name of religion
  6. As soon as the code comes into force, the political party is prohibited from using public money so that it cannot misuse it and take advantage of it.
  7. Political parties have to inform the police beforehand about their rallies so that arrangements can be made for them
  8. The election symbol of any political party cannot be displayed near the polling booth on the day of the election.
