Cybercrime is a crime committed through the internet which includes stealing sensitive information of a person or company, stealing data from a mobile, hacking data through a virus in a person’s or company’s computer, laptop or device. All these crimes fall under the category of cybercrime.
This is a legal crime. Cybercrime has become a matter of concern for every country and all countries are using their security agencies and new technology to deal with it so that it can be stopped to some extent.
In cybercrime, illegal activities are carried out using computers. Through this illegal activity, people and companies are harmed. All their data is stolen and corrupted. We now call them hackers. And the person who cracks the security of any data is called a cracker. All these activities come under cybercrime and it is also called cyber computer crime.

People who commit cyber crime already have all the information about computers and the internet, taking advantage of which they commit this type of crime.

In any computer system, lakhs of codes are inserted and by cracking these codes, one can easily enter anyone’s system, destroy its data and copy its data and to avoid any kind of proof, they also destroy their own data, due to which no proof of the cybercriminal can be found.
The user clicks on the unwanted dialogue that appears on the computer operating system or device being run by him, which allows cyber criminals to insert a virus into your computer or device and hack your sensitive information.

Types of cybercrime
Data Theft – When the data of a company or an individual is stolen, it contains sensitive information of the company. The company’s data is used without the permission of the owner, which causes loss of data if used illegally. In this case, the offender can be punished with three years of imprisonment and fine or both under section 43 (b), section 66 (e), section 67 (c) of the Information & Technology Act and section 379 of the IPC.
Hacking – Hacking is someone who intrudes into someone’s computer system or device with the help of a network and tampers with its data. This tampering can be done remotely at any time, in which the user does not even know that his data is being tampered with. For this, a punishment of up to three years and a fine is given under IT section 43 (a), section 66, IPC section 379.
Pronography – It is based on sexual acts in which making obscene videos, photos of others comes under this category. Making videos of other people and publishing them and sending such nude messages, photos etc. come under this category but watching these videos by a person cannot be called illegal but it cannot be published. For this, action will be taken under IT section 67 (a), IPC section 292,293,294,500,506,509.
Child pornography – Viewing and publishing child pornography is both illegal. In this, sexual acts are done with people under the age of 18 by luring them or forcing them in any way and it is published in obscene form in the form of video or photo. Viewing and portraying such pornographic videos is also illegal. For this, the laws have been made very strict. For this, there is a provision of punishment under IT Act section 67A and IPC 292,293,294,500,506.
Copyright Theft – In this, copyright law is violated in which the company has its own content created such as photos, videos, music, etc., all of these come under copyright, violating which is punishable. It includes copying someone’s content, downloading their music, videos, etc. and if this download is done without the permission of the company owner, then this act is considered punishable. Copyrighted photos, videos, music, etc. can be used for personal use but they cannot be used commercially.
Identity theft – This is a crime related to a person’s identity. In this, the person does all his transactions digitally through internet, for which he uses his password or does online shopping, for which online transaction is required. This includes all the work related to cash and banking of the person, in which the person has to give his identity, in which his Aadhar card, bank account, PAN card, etc. are all linked and cyber criminals cause harm through all this important information. In this, the person suffers maximum financial loss. For this, under the law T Act section 66 C, there can be a punishment of three years and a fine of one lakh rupees.
Spreading virus through software – Many times when a person uses his computer or device/phone, then many types of notifications keep showing on the program running through internet. When a person clicks on those notifications and downloads and installs that software, then these cyber criminals insert virus in your device or computer through that software, due to which your operating system starts hanging. Many times people do not pay attention to this, then these criminals extract all your sensitive information and harm you. To fight this virus, security agencies make their own antivirus software, by which this virus can be fought and detected. For this, under IT Act section 66, there can be a punishment of three years and a fine of up to five lakhs.
Cyber terrorism – This type of cyber crime poses a threat to a country. The country has confidential files which are hacked by these hackers. This damages the reputation of the country. For this, the security agencies of the country have to always remain alert. They want to harm the security of the country with the help of viruses. For this, under section 66F of the Indian Information Technology Act, there can be life imprisonment for cyber terrorism.
Harassment / Cyber stalking – It mostly involves those people or children who do not have complete knowledge of internet and social media and start talking to unknown people through email and chat. While talking to them, these criminals collect their physical address, personal photos, identity etc. and later blackmail and harass them through their personal identity and photos. In this, threatening messages and emails are sent to the person due to fear of which he gets trapped in their trap. For such cyber crime, action can be taken under IT Act Section 66A and the cyber criminal can be punished with three years of imprisonment and fine also.
Complaint for cyber crime
You can register your complaint in the cyber crime cell of any city where you live.
You can also register this complaint online and in the complaint you have to give your name, contact no., email address. After this you have to write an application in online copy and written form and submit it to the cyber crime cell of your city.
To complain, you can also go to your nearest police station and register an FIR and under section 154 of CRPC, the police officer has to register your complaint so that the victim can get immediate help.
